WEEK: 1 Back To Basics:
As you may know, every term we always start off with ‘back to basics’
With gymnasts having a nice Easter break it always throws them off the radar a bit, so kick starting the term with basics always helps to blow out the cob webs. It also helps them get back into the swing of things as well as tidy up and rebuild their confidence in gymnastics especially just after eating all those chocolate eggs.
WEEK 2: Active Acro Week :
This week the gymnasts will have to work in synchronization and trust, each responsible for their partner or partners. They will be working in small groups and putting together balance routines, with teamwork being the Key!
WEEK: 3 JGA PROgressive Medals:
Over the last 2 years JGA have spotted a few flaws in the BG Badge system. Although the fundamental work they are providing is good, some lower level badges are in fact more difficult than the supposed harder levels, but also gymnasts seem to become stagnant at the top end of the badges due to them being far too difficult. The other issue is that they seem to forget that gymnasts, regardless of elite or recreational level have different strengths. JGA’s new system is designed to split gymnastics into sections in order to give all gymnasts an opportunity to achieve a badge in a particular area of their sport.
WEEK 4: Spinning Week:
This week we will be concentrating on cartwheels and other spinning moves. All gymnasts will be working through the progressions like side bunny hops all the way to 1 handed cartwheel or even further. Also for spinning week some of the gymnasts will be doing somersaults, and maybe twisting somersaults.
Hope you guys don’t get dizzy.
WEEK: 5 BRITISH GYMNASTICS PROFICIENCY AWARDS:
Every Gymnasts favourite week-British Gymnastics Proficiency Awards. For the next week the Gymnasts will be continuing from where they left off last term, and will be tested by the coaches to see if they pass their proficiency awards. 6 passed skills out of 10 is all that is needed to gain their Badge and Certificate. If this is the Gymnasts first term, or first attempt at British Gymnastics Badges, then they will start from the beginning so that they get a fair crack at passing the necessary skills.
WEEK 6: Army boot camp Week:
This term JGA have re-introduced our army boot camp. Yes its back and the team here at JGA hope you guys enjoy it, as this will be the best army boot camp ever!
If you have never done an army boot camp before this is how it works; the gym will be turned into an army assault course, with all different exercises thrown into the mix.
The exercises will include things like press ups, sit ups, and crash mat jumps and if that isn't enough the gymnasts will be going into true army mode with them having to crawl through tents, tunnels and a giant net.
So if you guys are up for the challenge don't miss it!
WEEK 7: Diamond Jubilee/Practicing routines for academy champs:
To mark 60 years of the Queens reign JGA have put together a theme to celebrate these years. The gym will be decorated with red white and blue ribbon and lots of other fun bits. The main moves that the gymnasts will be focusing on are handstands. They will be doing everything from progressions of handstands like bunny hops all the way to moves that have handstands in them like handsprings.
WEEK: 8 Fun Week
½ term will be upon us once again, which means none other than-FUN WEEK! We know that some Parents and Gymnasts like to go away for ½ term. So this is the perfect opportunity for those who come to their normal sessions, to make up some ground or pull further away in their Star Charts. This week will include; games, races and just sheer fun, in order for the Gymnasts to try and obtain as many stars as they can to see who will be the overall champion at the end of the term?
WEEK 9: Bouncing week/Practicing routines for academy champs:
This week the gymnasts will be working on all different kinds of jumps. The gymnasts will get a massive opportunity to show off their skills, and if that’s not enough the gymnasts will be working on bigger jumps and somersaults as the session progresses
So if that sounds like you, don’t miss it!
WEEK 10: Beach Week:
This is the week that the gymnasts love. They get to see all of their coaches wearing silly clothes and costumes. As it is the summer term JGA have come up with a brand new theme ‘Beach Week’. All the coaches will be in the gym wearing funky shorts and tops just like you would at the beach. The gymnasts today will be doing all types of somersaults like forwards backwards and side wards.
Week 11: Wacky weeks:
Now this should be fun as the gymnasts will now have complete control of the coaches regarding what they would like to learn.
Yea that's right this theme is the gymnasts choice, for the whole week the gymnasts will have the opportunity to take control of the whole session. This will keep the coaches on their toes!
WEEK 12 & 13: Rehearsal for end of term displays:
This is real tester for both Gymnasts and Coaches. This is the time of the term, when ideas are thrashed about in order to try and put on the best show for the Parents before everyone breaks for their Summer holiday. I’m not going to tell you what we have in store, but we know you’re going to enjoy seeing what the Gymnasts have been up to all term. By the way, if parents think that they might be able to get out of the Gymnasts what they will be doing, think again. They have all taken the JGA oath, that displays will remain a secret until the final week!
WEEK: 14 End of term displays
This is the climax to our 14 week term! Our End of Term displays are always the most fun part of our term, and they are always a nice treat for the Parents, Families and Friends to see what the children have been learning over the last 3 months.
We hope you enjoy the displays, and would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our JGA gymnasts and parents a lovely summer!
